Halfway To Heaven and We Haven't Even Left Home Yet!

Vineyard Christian Fellowship of the Peninsula

Today is the last day for our senior pastor Mark Pettersen, who along with his wife Gail "planted" our Vineyard congregation 21 years ago. They are retiring after an extraordinary ministry and will be remembered with great affection.

I remember my first Sunday as a visitor in August of 1992. I came to 'check it out' and just never left. I knew i was halfway to heaven and i hadn't even had to leave home. The simple reason is that i felt the presence of that most elemental characteristic of Christianity. Jesus said "they will know you are my disciples because there is love among you". I always felt that love in our congregation. It has sustained me and refreshed me and continues to bless me each and every week.

I am confident that the quality of having love among us -- the fruit of the spirit -- will continue to provide an abundant harvest. The VCFP will be strong and healthy for its own sake and in tribute to Mark's ministry. If a tree is known by its fruit, then surely we are the good fruit of Mark and Gail.

Just thought i'd speak my piece and provide a safe place for anyone else that wanted to do the same. Today is also my 65th birthday, making this February 3rd particularly memorable for me.
